- Description
Product Overview
The WD43PURZ 4TB 3.5" Surveillance Hard Drive is a purpose-built internal mechanical storage drive manufactured by Western Digital under the dedicated WD Purple™ line. Engineered specifically to meet the demanding requirements of 24/7 always-on high-definition surveillance environments, this drive delivers reliable video recording and long-term retention for professional NVR and DVR installations, preventing dropped frames and visual stuttering across multi-camera streams.
Featuring Western Digital's proprietary AllFrame™ technology, the WD43PURZ optimizes ATA video streaming commands to reduce pixelation and frame errors while supporting configurations with up to 64 single-stream high-definition (HD) cameras. Built on conventional magnetic recording (CMR) mechanics operating at an energy-efficient 5400 RPM class with an expanded 256MB cache buffer and a SATA 6.0 Gb/s (SATA3) interface, it provides an annualized workload rating of 180 TB/year—three times the endurance of standard desktop drives. It is ideal for commercial installations, multi-family residential complexes, and enterprise NVR chassis requiring continuous surveillance write endurance.
✅ Key Features
-
Surveillance-Grade Engineering: Purpose-built for 24/7 continuous operation in high-definition video surveillance recording systems.
-
Exclusive AllFrame™ Technology: Improves ATA streaming to reduce frame drops, refine video playback, and optimize high-throughput multi-camera recording.
-
Support for up to 64 HD Cameras: Engineered to ingest video feeds from up to 64 single-stream high-definition cameras concurrently.
-
Workload Rating up to 180 TB/Year: Delivers up to 3× the workload capacity of standard desktop drives to handle continuous video write loads.
-
Expanded 256MB Cache: Large multi-segmented cache buffer handles heavy data throughput and multiple simultaneous video streams with ease.
-
CMR (Conventional Magnetic Recording): Leverages proven CMR architecture for consistent, uninterrupted write performance across full storage volumes.
-
Energy-Efficient 5400 RPM Spindle: Reduces heat dissipation, mechanical vibration, and power draw in multi-bay NVR enclosures.

-
4-Camera System @ 1080p (H.265, 15fps): ~80–112 days of continuous recording
-
8-Camera System @ 1080p (H.265, 15fps): ~40–56 days of continuous recording
-
16-Camera System @ 1080p (H.265, 15fps): ~20–28 days of continuous recording
-
4-Camera System @ 4MP (2K, H.265, 15fps): ~48–64 days of continuous recording
-
8-Camera System @ 4MP (2K, H.265, 15fps): ~24–32 days of continuous recording
